Not only has this fund outperformed over each of the last 5 years, in particular in 2007 when many other outstanding managers stumbled, but its outperformance improved still further from the time of the credit crunch.  This Newton fund is completely unconstrained, so doesn't have to have so much in this sector or that. It feeds off the groups best ideas, and then runs a tight portfolio (just 35-40 stocks). With a number of FTSE 100 stocks currently representing the bulk of the groups  "best ideas" it has a 73% weighting in the FTSE 100 index.  Interestingly it also has a 10% weighting in cash and bonds, waiting for outstanding opportunities on the most volatile days. 

 This is a medium risk UK stockmarket fund, which has the discretion to move around the stockmarket, heavily over/under-weighting where necessary, to aggressively follow the groups "best ideas", what is called a thematic approach.  A core holding for growth investors, particularly at times when their researched themes appear to be over-delivering, as is currently the case.
